This is the second of two posts that cover the Olympics & Paralympics. Visit the 2024 Olympics: Ultimate Book & Movie List (all sports) for not just sports information but everything you need to know to enjoy this year’s 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The First Olympic Games that included a disability (spinal injury) was held in 1960, Rome. Here is the full history of the Paralympic Games.

This Paralympics book and movie list covers most sports in this year’s summer Paralympics in Paris. I have also included some bonus suggestions for sport biographies and movies about athletes with physical disabilities that may not fit into a Paralympic category.

Follow the stories of world-class athletes who were born with disabilities and forged a path to the Olympics from a young age or elite athletes whose disabilities were a result of war or accident. Some of these fought for the rights of those with disabilities to play competitive sports, some who had their Olympic dreams shattered. This led to the formation of disability sports and the Paralympic Games and their place on the world stage today. Many of these athletes achieved a gold medal victory and went on to break world records.

Lucas at the Paralympics features character Lucas and his friend Eddie as they cheer on Paralympic athletes in a variety of sports. Filled with cartoon animals, this is a very useful tool in introducing young readers to the basics of the sports which include sitting volleyball, para archery and wheelchair fencing. Cheer on the wheelchair basketball team and follow blind runners around the track in blind running.
