We watched this great 2024 film by Genesis Apologetics recently as a family. A joint project between several creationist organizations, The Ark and the Darkness is directed by Ralph Strean, director of Genesis: Paradise Lost.
It is a compelling documentary that presents the Biblical account of Noah’s Ark and the worldwide flood with both theological depth and scientifically accurate evidence. Released by Sevenfold Films and Genesis Apologetics, this movie delivers an immersive experience, blending high-fidelity visual effects with a strong Biblical narrative to depict one of the most dramatic events described in the Bible.
This brand new release shows a unique overview of Genesis chapters 1-11 from the beginnings of man, the story of Noah’s Ark and the Genesis flood, as well as the significance of the Tower of Babel in world history. It also delves into the eschatological implications of the days of Noah, linking them to end times prophecy and the coming final judgment.
One of the standout aspects of The Ark and the Darkness is its commitment to visual storytelling. The film boasts what is described as the most photo-realistic representation of Noah’s Flood ever put to screen. There are a plethora of extra resources recommended at the back of the book as well as in the comprehensive endnotes.
You can either watch the film straight through in one sitting or you can utilise the fantastic Student Guide by Elizabeth and Edward Isaacs. This is a great resource with an abundance of extras. It is scheduled over 4 sessions of around 1 hour each, combining watching a section of the film then pausing to work through questions, discussion topics and Bible readings. This could easily be extended to 8 shorter sessions for younger children or for 8 more in depth sessions for older children. There are additional educational videos and resources recommended in the student guide for this purpose.

While the content is mostly appropriate for the whole family, there are some visuals of people and animals who have died as a result of the flood. There are also some mentions of topics such as sex trafficking, child sacrifice and witchcraft but these are not elaborated on. Please preview before deciding what age is appropriate for your family.
